Dog Trainer Essex and Kent

Dogs evolved from wolves many thousands of years ago. The latest discoveries were two canine skulls excavated in Siberia and Belgium believed to be the oldest domesticated dogs. The skulls are thought to be 33000 years old and lead scientists to believe the domestic dog may have evolved from more than one species. Dogs were  domesticated by man long before other animals such as cows, sheep and goats. The dogs may have proved helpful for use to man for guarding, herding and hunting.

Did you know?

Is a trained dog more friendly than an untrained dog? Recent research has shown that 63.6% of dogs that have shown aggression towards other dogs have attended formal training classes. And the chances of dogs and puppies that have attended formal dog training classes showing aggression towards dogs or humans is 2.3 times higher than dogs that have not attended classes. Also results showed that aggression shown towards unfamiliar dogs or humans was most common in dogs that attended formal puppy training classes under the age of 16 weeks. This suggests that nevous, anxious or insecure dogs are at an increased risk of becoming aggressive if handled incorrectly or exposed to stressful situations.

This proves the importance of using a Professionally Qualified Experienced Dog Trainer/Instructor.

Did you know that a recent study found that English Cocker spaniels had significantly lowered levels of serum serotonin than aggressive dogs of other breeds. This pattern of behaviour could explain why English Cocker Spaniels seem to be more likely to show impulsive aggression than other breeds. Point for debate: Would this influence the behaviour of the recent popularity of Cockerpoos?

Did you know that a recent study has results that suggest attachment insecurity in dogs is associated with low levels of owner talk and high levels of touch and a weak owner/dog bond characterised by dog avoidance, by high owner talk and low owner touch? Attachment security is also influenced by moderate owner talk and low touch! The results from this survey suggest that owner behaviour can be moderated during stressful events (vet examinations et cetera) to reduce dog insecurities! Point for Debate: Should we always ignore inappropriate behaviour and praise appropriate responses as most commonly suggested?

Did you know the latest trend of some so called behaviourist/trainers is to advise dog owners to ignore their dog’s bad behaviours.

Point for debate: It is commonly accepted ignoring a behaviour illustrates you are either unconcerned or find the behaviour acceptable.

Did you know a frightened dog puts his tail between his legs because it cuts off the sent glands in its anal region, a very vulnerable part of the anatomy. Since the anal glands carry personal scents that identify the individual dogs, the tail between the legs action is the dogs equivalent of insecure humans hiding their faces.

Did you know  A dog’s sense of smell is said to be a thousand times more sensitive than that of humans. In fact, a dog has more than 220 million olfactory receptors in its nose, while humans have only 5 million.

Did you know everything a dog does is natural. Everything we teach them is unnatural
